When the Board hired investments expert Greg Kats to advise on their sustainability efforts, they probably weren’t expecting this.
Greg Kats, President of Capital E, and an investment expert the Board paid to advise the community on climate action at the Sustainability Charrette last month, just published an op-ed in support of divestment in today’s Daily Gazette. The decision, he says, is clear — divestment is the right thing to do morally and financially.
This is a huge victory. Share the good news and let your classmates know: even the College’s sustainability advisors are publicly calling for fossil fuel divestment.
Ask your classmates to sign the alumni petition to show the Board alumni are watching by Posting to your class discussion Board. These discussion groups are not frequently posted to, but there are hundreds of alums from each class year subscribed, making this one of the most effective ways the reach out to the alumni community. If you aren’t a part of your discussion group, you can register in minutes here. You can find a sample post below:
The campaign to divest Swarthmore’s endowment just received a major endorsement today from Greg Kats, President of Capital E, and an investment expert the Board paid to advise the community on climate action at the Sustainability Charrette last month. On Thursday, he published an op-ed in support of divestment in today’s Daily Gazette. The decision, he says, is clear — divestment is the right thing to do morally and financially.
Mr. Kats confirmed what we already knew: Chris Niemczewski’s Investments Committee is wrong, the carbon bubble poses serious risks to investors, and Swarthmore’s financial and moral standing is eroded by Niemczewski’s refusal to divest.
With over 900 signatures on the alumni petition, the endorsement of the College’s own sustainability advisor, we are closer than ever to victory – but we need alumni support to get us all the way there.
We need to show the Board that alumni are watching — sign the alumni petition to show your support! You can sign here: https://swatmj.org/alumni_petition/
